Films to Fill Your Wanderlust

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

SLOWM

After I watched this movie the first time, I almost booked a one way ticket to Iceland and wouldn’t have regretted it for one minute if I actually did. However, something stopped me and whenever I watch this movie, I wonder why. The scene when Ben Stiller skateboards though the streets in Iceland with the mountains in the background, and he just seems so free, is everything that I want in life.

Bridget Jones

Bridget Jones is my spirit animal. Not being able to cook, dressing like a bunny rabbit at a family event, falling for the wrong men? Yup, all me. The English accents, Hugh Grant’s wavy hair, and dirty London taxis, always get me nostalgic for the place that I hope to call home one day. Although there is no huge exterior shots of the London Eye or double decker buses, Bridget Jones always makes me want to buy a shitty apartment over a fish and chips shop if it means being back in London streets.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

The ultimate film for wanderlust. Is it totally lame that I cry every time I watch this film? It is? Okay. Well, if you want to see the beautiful blue ocean of Greece and Blake Lively running along a beach in Mexico (hubba hubba), I highly recommend this film. And if you haven’t seen this already, have you been living under a rock?!

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

best

I have never wanted to go to India more than after I had finished watching this movie. Maybe when I am old and retired, I will travel to India and find myself a hot retired, old man to please me. The scenery in this film is gorgeous and such a heart-warming beautiful movie.

Music Wednesday: James Bay

Oh look at me, actually uploading music on a Wednesday, like I promised myself I was going to do at the beginning of this blogging thing. Anyway, I have a new crush. Surprise, surprise! I could write a book of all the crushes that I require on a weekly basis. The new guy in my life and in my ears is James Bay.

james-bay

I mean, look at him. His first album “Chaos and the Calm” dropped March 23 and I have yet to listen to anything else this past week. If you like Hozier (besides the over-played “Take Me to Church” track. . .is the radio ever going to move on from that song?), then you will love James Bay. He is a mix of soulful and folk and I love every second of it. Listen to his song “Scars” below, which just so happens to be my favorite song off of the album.

Throwboy

Friday night was the Midwest Influencer Network or #MWINetwork VIP Blogger Lounge, and as I was not feeling too well I was going to skip it entirely. Continuous sniffing and a snotty nose is not how I wanted to present myself amongst other bloggers and networking opportunities. However, having major FOMO, I decided to down a couple Advil, cake the concealer over my red nose, and make it to the event.

Since I arrived over an hour after the doors opened, the party was in full swing and I grabbed my goody bag and made my way to the open bar. There were people from all over the Saint Louis area at the event. From paperdolls (gorgeous jewelry), to Meero Mani Nails, and finally to my must-talk-about-I-love-them-so-much brand Throwboy.

Throwboy make unique and internet friendly pillows and “throwbabies” (I use my throwbaby as a keychain.) As an avid fan of YouTube, I have heard of Throwboy before through YouTubers iJustine and PointlessBlog, yet somehow never knew they were made right in my hometown of St. Louis! Not only are the items they sell so very, very cool, the people behind Throwboy are insanely nice and passionate about their work.

I picked up my two emojis: the poop and the hearteyes because who doesn’t love a bit of both?

Check out all their products over on their website and maybe buy one or ten…you can’t have too many emojis in your life.

Alexa Chung & the Fashion Industry

Alexa Chung & the Fashion Industry

I’ve been a huge fan of Alexa Chung for quite a few years now. When I happened to pass her at Lollapalooza in 2009 and then her show “It’s on with Alexa Chung” played on MTV, she became an instant girl crush.

Now a days when I need some inspiration in my style, I tend to scroll through her tag on Tumblr to find some outfit ideas. Case in point: after she showed up at the Topshop Unique show with braided pigtails, I decided to try out the look on myself and got a lot of compliments. Mainly from men, but I’ll cringe at that fact later.

Chung is a lady with who I feel I could grab a beer with and have a great time. A great laugh. And doesn’t seem like a stuck up individual. Back when I lived in London, I met her at Liberty London for the launch of her book “It.” She is absolutely gorgeous and lights up a room immediately. She’s beyond sweet and complimented my eyes (squeal!). Plus, she looked so amazing in a simple dress.

Since she is a model, she has an insider look into the fashion industry and I think the YouTube video below is a great, satirical viewpoint of Alexa Chung on the fashion industry.

Hope you enjoy!
